
Description: from north America. Their natural habitats are fields, forests and buildings. They are very commonly kept as pets and as a result there are a large range of selectively bred morphs available. Maximum adult length is 120cm-180cm. While they can get long, they remain slim and easy to handle. Their lifespan is 20 years minimum.
Requirements: as adults they need a minimum of a 3ft-4ft wooden vivarium. Choose a wooden vivarium as it keeps heat in and allows for the temperature gradient. Temperatures should be 32C at the hot end and 21C at the cool end, or as close as possible to this. A heat mat should be used. Choose dry substrates and décor so not to raise humidity levels.
Diet: Carnivorous (frozen prey).
Recommended for: ideal snake for beginners although they can be shy as babies, they are mainly gentle and docile as adults.
